Dreams into Creations

Barbara Nanshe is an environmentalist, with a love for animals and plants of the world. Her work follows her love of nature and the Goddess (in all her forms) and her interest in pattern and Indian and Middle Eastern art and design.

I create Jewellery in honour of the creative force of mother earth. My motivation is to connect the wearer to that force. The spiral, often used as a clasp in many pieces, is one recurring element representing the eternal cycle of life.
I carve forms in wax and reproduce them in Silver or Gold. I also fabricate my designs from 100% recycled Sterling sheet and wire and will often include stones which I have cut myself. In many cases the rough material has been found in my travels around Australia or else where in the world.

I also buy stones from the places I travel to, that are cut in local workshops.
My jewellery is not mass produced, I create the master and limited editions. All my pieces are stamped with my Triple Goddess Lotus symbol and an edition. I enjoy stamping words, phrases or “calls” onto my pieces to add a surprise element. Every edition will be slightly different and thus unique.
Drawing, painting, assemblage and sculpture are a large part of my work. I produce cards and incorporate my original and reproduced images into
sculptural assemblage.
My work will be available at The Olive Tree Markets during 2011 and online at www.nanshedesigns.com.au or by calling 02 49621208
