Have you ever looked into the eyes of an animal, and seen an intelligence you know you will never understand? Let me take you on a journey to explore some of the most unique wildlife in the world. Come, take a look through my lens, and join me on the wild side!
My name is Danielle Rae and I am a zookeeper at Hunter Valley Zoo and part time Wildlife Photographer. The challenge of photographing wildlife in their natural environment has inspired me to travel across oceans, through dense jungle, over mountains and onto endless savannah plains. I aim to share with my audience an awareness and appreciation of the animals we share our world with, by allowing them to view them in their natural element.

Photography allows a photographer to capture an irretrievable moment in time and preserve it. Texture, space, emotion and atmosphere can all be conveyed to draw the audience into the image and make them feel a part of the journey.
Through my photos I aim to inspire an awareness and appreciation of wildlife, but also ask my audience to question not just what they see, but their role in what they see!
What will happen to the Orang-utan when the forests are gone? What will happen to the Elephants when the poaching doesn’t stop? What will happen to the Lion when he can only be seen in photographs?
When did the fences stop protecting the people from the wild, and start protecting the wild from the people? In every continent, country and climate animals thrive, surviving with nothing more than evolution and instinct. I want my audience to see the beauty in the untamed wilderness around them and make a connection to the animals I portray.
Take a look through my lens, and welcome to the Wild Side…
