JANE GILCHRIST of the NOKHOI KHOR ART WORKSHOP, NEWCASTLE
“The world will not evolve past its current state of crisis by using the same thinking that created the situation.”
Albert Einstein
My art is always about respect for the environment, so I use mostly recycled materials in the artwork and the frames. I produce 2D artworks, nailing or gluing old weathered metals on to boards. I also use organic glue, so that the work is safe to live with (and dispose of).
The content of my pictures is rather more varied…..memories of places, birds and animals, boats, dogs, the human figure, iconic images, etc.

The styles range from abstract to naturalistic and very realistic. And colour, colour, colour!
My work is available from EARTHQUIRKS. Visit their exotic and friendly emporiums at:
- EQ 1 : 128 Magnus Road, Nelson Bay (opposite the newsagents)
- EQ 2 : Shop 3, Kendrick Street, The Junction (in the Junction Village)
Meanwhile I am creating at the Nokhoi Khor Art Workshop, in sunny uptown Waratah, Newcastle, with a few other itinerant artists, such as Sul Te Wan, Sybella Hooke and Luke Schrib Lehhr. Our familiars keep us company: Ned, Nell and Alexandria - gorgeous, big dogs.
“Nokhoi Khor!” is a Mongolian salutation, used instead of a hello, when visiting the yurt of another. It translates as “Hold the dogs!”, which is a quite useful phrase, if you visit this workshop.
