Judy Linder

Being fortunate enough to have a highly competent and patient mother I began knitting creatively from the age of 4. Rarely was I content to follow a
pattern and, despite many mistakes, created quite unique garments. In my early twenties I acquired my first spinning wheel and began spinning merino
and mohair fleeces. I continued spinning while putting in long hours in a demanding job. In the late 90’s I encountered Suri alpacas for the first time at
Tocal and was instantly besotted by the fibre.

My husband and I began a breeding program on our small Hunter Valley property and, twelve years later, we are producing high quality Suri alpaca fleeces. While it is a demanding fibre from which to produce yarn, it is well worth the effort and time. The yarns created from the fleece produce a fabric which has magnificent drape and lustre. Traditionally used for absolutely top quality Italian suiting, I have been making luxurious garments like shawls, vests, shrugs and wedding accessories.

A common reaction when people the garments I make is “ooohh, it feels sooo soft!”

I am fortunate to have a network of supportive fellow fibre fanatics locally. We meet regularly to share skills and ideas. We are currently preparing a
small exhibition for our local Arts Council.
