William Maguire

Artist Blacksmith
William Maguire is a contemporary artist blacksmith who brings his experience from extensive training and travel to give life and fluidity to his reluctant medium, steel. He uses traditional joinery techniques in his innovative designs giving his work its quality, value, aesthetic appeal, strength and unmatched uniqueness.
Starting at the age of 14 Will is now a highly skilled craftsman after completing a dual trade in blacksmithing and engineering fabrication in Australia and working under a number of renowned artist blacksmiths in England and Russia.

Will uses his rare skills as a blacksmith to create a wide a variety of work including gates, dining tables, wall hangings, sculpture, clocks, window grills and candle sticks. He particularly enjoys expressing emotions and ideas through cleverly wrought steel.
Will has won a number of sculpture awards, was a finalist for the Newcastle emerging artist prize and has been involved in a number of group exhibitions in both England and Australia. Will has work in private collections in Sydney Australia and North Yorkshire, England. He is also involved with the NSW artist blacksmith association as a demonstrator and committee member.

Currently, Will has work in the outdoor sculpture exhibition, Sculpture in the vineyards, Wollimbi Wines, Wollimbi, NSW, until January 2nd 2011
Will’s work can be bought from the Maitland regional art gallery shop and the Olive Tree markets which are held on the first Saturday of the month (not January) at the Junction Public School in Newcastle…
