Leave your footprint in history – last chance

Locals will have one last chance to make their mark on Sunday March…

Leave your footprint in history – last chance

Locals will have one last chance to make their mark on Sunday March 7 during a special project stopping at Cudgegong Gallery called ‘Touch this Earth Lightly’.

The project involves capturing the feet of locals by encapsulating them in white clay.

The first sessions earlier in February were very popular, booked out quickly by locals, people who had made the journey from Dubbo and even a jillaroo visiting from the UK.

To give more people the chance to be part of history, another 8 sessions are now available.

Sculptor Bridget Nicholson is responsible for travelling around and creating the ‘ceramic shoes’ and then using them to create art pieces that make a statement about the environment.

Examples of this work will be on show at the Artist in Residence Between Seasons showing at Cudgegong Gallery from January 29 to March 8.

The project has come about through work Bridget has been doing as part of the Williams River Valley Artists’ Project. Initiated by Juliet Fowler-Smith, this project has brought together artists with environmental concerns in response to the proposed damming of the Williams River (Tillegra Dam).

“It’s great to see that so many people are excited about taking part in this project,” said Bridget.

“What’s special about this project is that people can make a very individual contribution to something that, in the end, will be much larger than themselves and make a huge statement about protecting the environment.

“I recently did another session in Gloucester and so far I have about 60 shoes to make use of in my art.”

The workshop runs on Sunday March 7 from 10.30am to 4.45pm. There are only 8 places available and the process takes approximately 30 minutes.

Bookings are essential. For more information contact Cudgegong Gallery on 02 6374 1630 or visit <a href=http://www.cudgegonggallery.com.au">www.cudgegonggallery.com.au. Gallery opening hours are 10am-5pm every day at 102 Herbert St, Gulgong NSW.

This event is sponsored by Arts Upper Hunter.
