Becc Spiteri – Mandalay Arthouse
Based in The Hunter Valley, artist Becc Spiteri creates contemporary artworks and unique jewellery pieces. Having previously studied Fashion Design at The University of Technology in Sydney, Becc is currently undertaking studies in Fine Art at The University of Newcastle.
Becc’s two dimensional artworks include embossed lino prints featuring hand stitched paper detail with botanical and feminine themes. Recently, three dimensional pieces of corsetry and costume combine ideas of the beautiful and the macabre.
Jewellery created from jute, linen, glass, antique lace and other reclaimed materials are presented under the name of ‘Mandalay Arthouse’. These wearable art pieces incorporate traditional crafts such as crochet, embroidery, knitting and macrame whilst maintaining a modern and often quirky sensibility. Each piece is lovingly handmade and given a name to represent the imaginary character / heroine the piece was inspired by.
Becc is represented locally by Two Birds Fine Art Gallery, 82 Toowoon Bay Rd, Toowoon Bay, NSW.
You can find Becc at The Olive Tree Markets, The Junction on the first Saturday of each month. On the wonderful wide world of web, you can take a look at the following;
