Art Bazaar

Expression of Interest Process

ART BAZAAR

SATURDAY 6th DECEMBER 2008

Expression of Interest Process

The ART BAZAAR is an initiative of the Hunter Arts Network (HAN) that was originally conceived and managed by the Cultural Development Group within Newcastle City Council. The vision was to provide a platform for regional arts, crafts and design practitioners to showcase their work and to provide an opportunity for arts-related organisations to participate, hence providing a broader view of the local arts industry for the public.

Over the last 5 years ART BAZAAR has become a highly anticipated event for both the public and the participating stallholders. It has stimulated the arts community and increased public awareness of Newcastle’s diverse artistic culture, successfully displaying the many individuals, groups, organisations and businesses which foster and nurture this culture. This has included designers, educational institutions, specialist bookstores, art groups, works of public art, demonstrations, galleries plus of course the artists and craft practitioners.

Another major benefit of the event is the opportunity for practitioners and organisations within the arts, craft and design sectors to develop professional networks which support the development of new work, broader audiences and marketing opportunities - all of which align directly with the objectives of HAN.

This is a tremendous opportunity for participants to market themselves and their work to a large audience at a time of year when this audience is really “in the mood” to buy!

KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER:

• This year’s event will be held on Saturday 6th December in Newcastle’s beautiful Laman Street, between Dawson & Darby Streets

• All stall holders must be members of Hunter Arts Network ($50 individuals and $80 organisations).

• Goods sold at ART BAZAAR are to be the original work of the Stallholders.

• Due to the increasing success of the ART BAZAAR the number of stalls is limited.

• To participate you will need to fill out the Expression of Interest (EOI) form and return it with 4 photographs of your work by the 31st July 2008.

• An independent selection panel will consider each EOI and then select the successful stall holders.

Please note, the questions asked and the information sought within the EOI are aimed at obtaining sufficient details about the nature of your work to enable the selection panel to reach a fair decision. Please be as thorough as possible.

• The results of this EOI process will be notified to all applicants by the 15th August 2008. If you are successful you will be provided with a time line of the event and relevant additional information.

• Please note that there will be a stall charge of $60, which will cover your public liability insurance on the day and contribute to the publicity, promotion and marketing for the event. This is of significant importance & without it we cannot stage the event!

• Stalls may be shared by up to 3 Members – in this case the stall fee can be split between the Members. This is an excellent opportunity to provide a variety of goods and a wider range on each stall than one Member may be able to offer!!

• Stall Fees will be due by Friday 29th of August 2008 - payment of this Stall Fee must be received before participation is confirmed!

• In the interest of fairness, any stallholder(s) found to be selling the work of others who have not been subject to the Expression of Interest process (whether they are Members or not) will be barred from future events! To do this is ripping-off your fellow Members, so please don’t do it ‘cos someone always finds out!!

• Please make sure you read all information carefully and fill in all questions on the Expression of Interest form. Should you have any further questions please email them to members@hunterartsnetwork.org
