Wangi Lions Club have been presenting the highly-regarded Dobell Festival of Art, Craft and Sculpture for almost 40 years. The Festival features over 300 original works of Art and a wide range of quality hand-made Craft items.

The 2015 Festival commences on Friday, 1st May at 7.30 with the official opening and presentation of prizes by their Sponsors. Canapes and refreshments will be served throughout the evening. Opening Night entry is $15 per person, accompanied children free. Scott Bevan, author of “Bill, the Life of William Dobell” has been invited to perform the opening, but his response has not yet been received.

The Festival continues Saturday 2nd opening at 9:00am and closing at 5:00pm and Sunday 3rd opening at 9:00am and closing at 4:00pm. Light refreshments will be available both days.

This year they’ve added a separate category in Art for works by young artists aged 18 years and Under.

Judge – Gwendolin Lewis

Gwendolin Lewis, Batchelor of Fine Arts (Painting) Newcastle University, is a highly talented and qualified artist who brings her wide and varied experience to the task of judging artworks in the 2015 Dobell Festival.

Gwendolin’s initial qualification from Swinburne College of Graphic Art and Design saw her working in the commercial graphic art world in Victoria and running her own business in architectural drawing in New South Wales as well as pursuing her own career as an artist and teacher. Gwendolin has worked in many different media and says..

“Capturing the emotional essence of a subject is an important aspect of my painting, whether it be a particular time of day or atmospheric effects caused by weather, it is where I find myself as a painter”

Teaching is her passion and she is able to bring to her students, privately or in group workshops, a diverse range of techniques and subject matters, because of her own training and experience. Gwendolin has exhibited widely and won many awards, including a number of first prizes.
