Transient – featuring the art of Varelle Hardy, Felicity Howard, Lochlan Howard and Catherine Kavanagh Di Gravio
Opening Friday 22 August at 6pm at Back to Back Galleries, 57 Bull St Cooks Hill
Varelle works in mixed media. This time she adapts clay accompanied by timber and wire, to illustrate innovative contemporary ideas.
Felicity’s work explores the relationship between artist and viewer. She is drawn to the ephemeral nature of street art and the fading of both beauty and art – nothing is meant to be permanent.
Lochlan’s work challenges the audience to appreciate the subtle original facades in ever-changing Newcastle. In a town where bold modern structures are beginning to dominate our streets, it is the iconic architecture of the Hunter that holds the cultured identity of our home. Lochlan’s hand-crafted artworks attempt to glorify and remind us of our beautiful home in its truest form.
Follies, those often beautiful and extravagant architectural structures, have long fascinated Catherine. These historical oddities, which suggest a greater purpose without ever offering one, led her to seek to capture their inspirations to delight and transfix in a series of acrylic paintings featuring colour, pattern and motif.
The exhibition runs from 22 August to 7 Sept
Opening hours: Friday, Saturday, Sunday 11-5
