Night OWLS (Original Welcoming Lighting Solutions) is a competition for young people aged 15 to 29, to design creative lighting installations in selected areas of Newcastle City Centre. Night OWLS is an initiative of The City of Newcastle and Newcastle Youth Council.

Young people will have the choice of two competition criteria:

1. A realistic activation and lighting project that has the potential to be installed. These designs must follow design criteria (contact Council’s Community Planner on 4974 2061 or emailycouncil@ncc.nsw.gov.au for a copy)

2. A lighting installation that has no boundaries – a dream project.

Selected designs will be exhibited at the Newcastle Museum from 23 September to 3 November 2014. Opening night is on 25 September 2014 and winners will be announced on Friday 10 October 2014. Winners will receive monetary prizes (up to the value of $1500). Teams or individuals are welcome to submit design concepts.

Designs may be considered for installation, once they are further refined between the artist, Council and other stakeholders. Installation is also subject to agreement with adjacent building owners. More info: ycouncil@ncc.nsw.gov.au
