This 5 week hands-on course is aimed at beginners and past printmakers wanting a refresher. The main emphasis will be for students to create a variety of carborundum prints using wood, acetate and cardboard plates. Students will be encouraged to experiment with and develop many variations and combinations within this technique including collagraphy, multiplate prints, al la poupée, and chiné colle. The rough quality of carborundum creates beautiful dense tones of colour and velvety blacks without the use of acids and chemicals.
Come along to this small and relaxed class to explore the many varied aspects of this technique as well as feel competent working in a printmaking studio. Course notes and some materials will be provided.
Students will receive a starter kit at a minimal cost of $20, payable at the first session. Students should bring in photos or images to work with. These should be bold and simple due to the nature and application of the carborundum.
