Worlds converge at Cudgegong Gallery

An eclectic group of painters will take visitors on a fascinating journey across continents, landscapes and cultures during the latest Between Seasons Showing at Cudgegong Gallery.

Works from Ken Knight, Chris Adams and Victor Greenaway will be on display along with pieces from Rama Sampson, Ungakini Tjangala and Malpiya Davey from Ernabella Arts, Australia’s oldest Indigenous art centre – a unique coming together of painting styles and inspiration.

Ken Knight, who features in private and corporate collections across Australia, Europe and Asia will exhibit impressionist landscape images painted in oils in a spontaneous and free manner.

Mr Knight said the challenge lies not so much in relaying photographic information, but in capturing the essence and spirit of a scene.

“It follows that in this impressionist pursuit less becomes more. By reducing the landscape and abstracting elements from it, I enable the viewer to make an intimate interpretation of the image.”

As visitors turn the corner, Victor Greenaway will take them on a journey through the laneways of Orvieto in Italy and then Ernabella artist Malpiya Davey transports viewers to the Western Australian border with her mark making based around the depiction of traditional bush foods.

The Between Seasons Showing runs from January 29 to March 1. For more information contact Cudgegong Gallery on 02 6374 1630 or visit www.cudgegonggallery.com.au. Opening hours are 10am-5pm every day at 102 Herbert St, Gulgong NSW.
