Hello! My name is Kathy McMillan, and I am an artist, photographer, designer and maker. My work is inspired by the Australian bush, including watercolour paintings of native wildlife and botanical photographs.

I live and create on both Awabakal and Dunghutti Country, dividing my time between Newcastle and my off grid tiny house on wheels, parked on the property where I grew up in the Macleay Valley Hinterland. I have been a stallholder at various markets on the Mid North Coast since May 2023, and around the Hunter Region since September 2024.

What I create:

Art and Photo Prints: matted or framed with reclaimed timber.

Greeting cards: printed on 100% recycled card using vegetable-based inks, with recycled Kraft envelopes and packaged in biodegradable cellulose (not plastic).

Hand-bound art journals and sketchbook covers: in a range of papers and sizes.

Hand-sewn textile products: Aprons, Cushion Covers, Pencil Cases, Pin Cushions, Placemats, Table Runners and Tea Towels.

My signature Leaves fabric design is digitally printed on an easy-care cotton/linen blend. My fabric supplier is Australian owned, prints fabric in Naarm (Melbourne), is accredited with Ethical Clothing Australia, and their fabric printing process is Oeko-Tex approved.

Not one single scrap is wasted in my production either, even the smallest scraps are shredded with leftover thread and used to fill pin cushions.

Why I create:

Art and making are highly therapeutic, as is connecting with others through creativity. Mindful artistic expression, making useful and beautiful items sustainably, and connecting with the people who appreciate both brings me joy.
