One of the most basic and historically significant utilitarian objects is the bowl. The bowl is used on a daily basis and is a pleasurable part of the dining experience. Though we may overlook the bowl in the presence of its contents, a beautiful hand made bowl adds enormously to the eating enjoyment – or it can stand alone. Be warned some of these bowls will serve the visual experience only (non functional)

Back to Back Galleries invited various makers to create bowls that were ‘beyond the ordinary’ and that would bowl over the viewers. The response has been overwhelming. Included in the list of makers are Janet Mansfield, the Chair of International Ceramics, well known Hunter Valley glass blower Setsuko Ogishi, staff from the ceramics departments of Newcastle University and TAFE plus many well known local potters and artists.

From bowls that are made of various clay bodies with a range of glaze surfaces to glass bowls, wooden bowls and even knitted bowls, the selection will have something to suit everyone’s taste.
