Sue Murray is a local Hunter artist residing in Lake Macquarie. Over her life she has been captivated by many creative pursuits, taking up painting later in life, and is self taught. She sometimes works in acrylic, but watercolour is her first love. Regardless of medium, all her work highlights the movement of pigment through flows, drips and spatters. She feels her work sometimes seems to have a life of its own, almost painting itself, as the pigment flows around the page.

Sue is fascinated by the science of paint itself, and likes to experiment with new ideas, frequently producing exciting and unexpected results. She also explores different surfaces and framing techniques to avoid covering work with glass.
Sue believes watercolour is the perfect medium for impressionist works with its ability to blend and flow on the page, with lost edges creating an etherial quality to capture light. Some of her work occasionally leans into abstract impressionism, and is always stylistic rather than realistic.

Sue’s passion project is large format watercolour portraits of women aiming to capture the essence of each in a way that dares you to look away. The works are largely anonymous, but most people comment that they see someone they know in them.
Sue sells her work directly through Hunter Art Bazaar, Open Studios and galleries. Her work was recently included in the Lighthouse Arts Elemental Exhibition.
Sue is passionate about keeping original art created by human hands affordable and accessible. She does not create or sell prints of any work sold as an original ensuring that your piece will truly remain one of a kind.
Original pieces are always available and commissions are considered.
