HAVE YURT – WILL TRAVEL
Martien Van Zullen’s Australian National Yurt Project, will be at Summer ART BAZAAR on 6 December & Martien will also be running Jewelry Adorned workshops at Timeless Textiles, 90 Hunter St, Newcastle, on 2 & 3 December
In 1997, international felt artist Martien van Zuilen made a wish – to travel to Mongolia to learn first-hand about the origins of hand-made felt, the oldest textile known to humankind.
Back in Australia she founded the National Yurt Project: a community arts project aimed to build a full-scale Mongolian Yurt with the help of many feltmakers, including from the wider Newcastle region!
Since its completion the Yurt Project has traversed the vast and varied Australian continent and visited countless communities in every state.
The Yurt will be on display at the NEWCASTLE ART BAZAAR on December 6th.
Come and visit the Yurt at the ART BAZAAR.
Be inspired by this unique community arts project that started with the making of a simple wish!
Martien Van Zullen will also be running Jewelry Adorned workshops at Timeless Textiles on 2 & 3 December 2014.
Discover the possibilities of felting on a precious scale! Learn a variety of innovative techniques to make uniquely shaped jewelry items, including ingenious beads (Scrunch, Spike, Fangs, ColourCuts). Incorporate wire, or make hand-felted cords in minutes; then transform them into one-of-a-kind Pendants, Brooches, Necklaces and more, more, more…. Anything is possible! A hands-on workshop with lots of ‘play time’, and inspiration to boot! All levels of experience welcome. Book here: http://timelesstextiles.com.au/page19825/shop.aspx?productID=24026
