Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG) is a child-friendly public gallery space that produces and promotes premier art experiences to Maitland, as well as surrounding districts and visitors to regional NSW.

In 2009 MRAG underwent extensions to its historic building and now boasts increased exhibition spaces, a gallery cafe and a book and gift store.

MRAG presents a diverse program of exhibitions, ranging from international artists to Australian artists, from contemporary to traditional shows, from emerging artists to community and collaborative projects. As well as exhibitions, MRAG presents public events including concerts, openings, lectures, education workshops and a wide range of children’s activities, workshops and tours.

Unique to all other galleries in the region, the highlight of the new MRAG will be the ArtFactory.

Showing 4 exhibitions per year the ArtFactory is a specially curated exhibition space for children, made up of an exhibition space and a play space. In the play space, there will be a different interactive installation that is linked by theme or medium with the works on show in the exhibition space. The idea of the play space is that children are able to do what they do best; pick things up, play with them, sometimes crawl all over them, take them apart and put them back together again… basically, just be kids.

Our grand re-opening in August 2009 will coincide with the centenary of the original building. MRAG will be a leader in regional NSW for innovative exhibitions and programs.
