First formed in Newcastle over 30 years ago, NCEATA now brings together more than 70 dynamic textile artists of all skill levels to share, learn and exhibit. Members come from all over the Hunter region, the Central Coast and Sydney areas.

NCEATA workshops cover embroidery, machine embellishment, dyeing, felting, beading, design, new materials and techniques in fibre art. Many are given by our own members but there are also special workshops taught by nationally recognised teachers. Kurri Creative Textile Retreat is held annually for the benefit of members but attracts many non-members who invariably subsequently join NCEATA. The details of this Textile Retreat are on our website: www.nceata.org.

NCEATA has 2 important exhibitions each year and these are our Travelling themed Suitcase Exhibition which is exhibited over 12 months in many venues throughout Australia and our annual themed exhibition which is currently “Wetland Wonderland” being held in Wallsend Library Gallery, Newcastle NSW from Nov 2010 to Jan 2011.
All members receive a monthly newsletter which details the workshop information for each meeting and informs members about upcoming exhibitions and members’ news. There is an extensive library of informative, inspirational books and magazines focusing on textile art and related subjects.
Membership fees are $45 annually. Visitors are always welcome so just turn up to a meeting which is held at 130 Garden Grove Parade, Adamstown in Newcastle on the third Saturday and third Monday of each month from 10am to 2pm.

We have a comprehensive website www.nceata.org where you can read details of our next meetings, view members’ work, access our Textile Resources webpage and download an application for NCEATA membership. All contact with the current organising committee is also made through the website.
