‘Wake Up!’ is a not for profit student association run by Newcastle medical students with a keen interest in global health and international aid issues. As one of its major projects, ‘Wake Up!’ is running a week long ‘Red Week’ which aims to promote an ownership of the issue of HIV/AIDS amongst the general community, and to fundraise through monetary donations and fundraising activities. All proceeds are donated to organisations pioneering change and awareness in this area.
As a new initiative in 2010, ‘Wake Up!’ is running an art exhibition of donated art works which will be available for sale and the funds from which will be put back into th HIV/AIDS cause. In order for this event to be successful, we are sending out a callout to all interested individuals – university students, community members and colleagues alike to please donate any artwork and support this cause. The theme for the exhibition is ‘Painting the Town Red‘, and submissions of any size/medium would be greatly appreciated.
