This fast and fun workshop identifies the most essential aspect for anyone starting out, or already running, a creative business. Goal setting, strategy, time and money management, marketing and more – in this action-packed presentation participants learn some practical tips to help with the reality of running an arts business from an expert with over 25 years experience in the creative industries.
The workshop is tailored specifically to creative people who are (or want to be) self-employed, and the information is relevant no matter what your profession – filmmakers, writers, designers, visual artists, performers – all can benefit from a quick introduction or refresher to the basics of creative business.

About Monica Davidson
Monica Davidson is an award-winning expert on the creative industries. Monica began her creative life as a freelance journalist and filmmaker before starting a film production company in the early 90s. Her experience highlighted how desperately unprepared creative people can be for a life of entrepreneurship. Monica decided to use her expertise to help other creative practitioners develop and improve their business skills. Monica now works with individual practitioners and larger organisations as a business advisor, strategic consultant and workshop facilitator. She is a regular guest lecturer at institutions including AFTRS, NIDA, NAVA and Ausdance, and she is the author of the Australian version of Freelancing for Dummies. In 2013 Monica was appointed as the first NSW Creative Industries Business Advisor through SmallBizConnect, a position she held for two years. Monica completed her Masters Degree in Screen Business at AFTRS in 2014, and in 2015 was named as one of the Westpac 100 Women of Influence for her work in the creative industries. In 2016 her award-winning company Creative Plus Business Group joined the City of Sydney Creative Spaces project, and in 2017 Monica and the team were proud to join the NSW Department of Industry Business Connect program as creative industries specialists. Directions
From Lambton Park (where we also hold Art Bazaar), with the rotunda on your left, travel along Morehead Street in the direction of New Lambton. Cross the intersection of Morehead and Howe Streets, with the Lambton Park Hotel on your right. After crossing Howe Street a large pine tree and the Rectory will be visible on the left. The church and hall are behind the Rectory. Parking is available in the church grounds or on the street.
