MRAG is open Tuesday – Sunday 10am – 5pm (excludes public holidays)
All toddler’s, children’s and teen’s activities and workshops are developed from exhibitions on display at MRAG, grounding the art experiences of children and young people with a strong relationship to real works of art.
Bookings and payment at time of booking are required (Art Sundays excluded). Bookings are essential to secure your spot.

SPECIAL cooking Workshop with Catherine Woods
For children aged 6-12

Note: parents will need to inform MRAG staff of participant’s allergies, if any.
About the SPECIAL cooking workshops> Presented by senior staff from MRAG’s gallery café, Seraphine, the special cooking workshops will provide budding culinary artists the chance to play with their food. Making cupcakes during the first week and pizza in the second, a variety of toppings will be on hand for use in creating unique visual designs that have the additional benefit of being delicious!

Pipsqueak with Vanessa Evans
For toddlers aged 2-5 & their parents or carers
Plasticine sculpture
About Pipsqueak – Plasticine sculpture> Inspired by the artworks of Robyn Stanton Werkhoven and Eric Werkhoven, participants and their parents or carers will use plasticine to create fun sculptures of dogs and people.

Art Workshop with Vanessa Evans
For children aged 9-14
Toy Terrorizer Note: participants will need to bring some of their own materials
About Toy Terrorizer> In this workshop students can bring their old PLASTIC toys, and using inspiration from the current exhibition Peter and Fairlie Kingston: a shared childhood and Sid Phillips, the evil boy next door in the Toy Story movies, participants can re-model their toys into new and interesting sculptures. Talk with gallery staff at time of booking for more information about what sort of toys to bring.

About Pipsqueak – Squiggly portraits> Inspired by the exhibition Lineage by David Fairbairn, participants and their parents or carers will make fun squiggly portraits using a variety of drawing materials including oil pastels and charcoal.

Art Workshop with Trine Deans
For children aged 6-9
Where the Wild Things Draw
About Where the Wild Things Draw> Inspired by David Fairbairn’s portraiture in the exhibition Lineage, this workshop explores the imagination and wild streak of young artists through expressive drawing and mono prints. With the help of an untamed costume box, students will buddy up for portrait lessons, being both the artist and model.

LIFE DRAWING for teens with Ileana Clarke
For teens aged 14-18 Note: focusing on the semi-naked human form (wearing a bathing suit)
About Life Drawing for teens > Experience life drawing with a semi-naked human figure. The class is designed to progress from simple exercises into more detailed sketches. Various mediums will be offered to extend the drawing experience. Life drawing is a fantastic skill to learn for budding artists, particularly for older secondary school students.

Book Reading in the Art Factory with Emily Burgess
For children of all ages.
About the Book Reading in the Art Factory> Come and enjoy books, games and songs inspired by current exhibitions. This is a great activity for parents with kids of varying ages to get animated with fun and games in the gallery.

Art Workshop with Christian Kauter
For children aged 9-12
Don’t pin me down and don’t badger me.
About Don’t pin me down and don’t badger me> In this workshop, kids can work with Christian to make a variety of badges and brooches using a variety of mediums including found objects and fabric and a professional badge making machine as well. By the end of this workshop, the students will go home with a variety of custom made artworks you can pin to your collar.

Art Workshop with Kate Parker
For children aged 6-9
Soft Sculpture
About Soft Sculpture> In this workshop kids will look to Eli Turier’s Year of the Rabbit series of wall mounted sculptures (from the exhibition Works With Quirk) for inspiration and will work with Kate to create soft sculptures based on their own Chinese animal signs. By the end of the workshop kids will go home with a unique and personal, sculptural work.
