The humble lino is a great introduction to printmaking and also offers the more seasoned creative some challenges. Learn to competently cut, roll and print a lino block. Over the 5 weeks we will explore black and white designs as well as trying chine collé. We will focus on composition and making an image suitable for lino block printing.

The small group size and collaborative atmosphere make this an enjoyable class with many participants choosing to return course after course. For your first class bring along a pencil (2B is a good one), a pen, a drawing/ideas book, your favourite t-bag, mug and snack. Wear old clothes and covered shoes. It is estimated you will spend between $2 and $5 each week on materials, depending on the size and number of prints you make.

In this one day workshop using zinc plates and copper sulphate participants will learn how to prepare their plates, apply a hard ground and achieve tone using spray paint as an aquatint. By the end of the course everyone should have created a zinc plate with an image and have printed it intaglio ready for framing. Some materials will be provided. Suitable for beginners and those with some experience. Etching is a rich medium where an image is scratched, drawn or painted onto a metal plate and the image etched into the plate. A range of marks can be created and, after etching, ink is applied to the plate. A print is created by placing dampened paper onto the plate and passing both through a press.
NOTE: A further course is scheduled for Sunday 2nd June where participants will be able to extend their knowledge with multiple printing, chine collé, stencils and sugar lift.
