Repeat Performance – ceramics and paintings – featuring Heather Campbell and Debra Ancell will be at Back to Back Galleries from 8-24 September 8-24 with the official opening on Saturday 9 September 2-4 pm.

Heather Campbell – I have continued my fascination with the making of figurative ceramic forms. I have mainly concentrated on female figures. I am concerned with their body shapes and their varied facial expressions. Using clay and sometimes mixed media I try to portray contemplative, naïve figures or sculptural forms. I like natural and timeless finishes which I achieve by using soft shades of mid fire glazes and textured crawl glazes on my pieces.

Debra Ancell – Awabakal, an oasis amidst the sometimes -overwhelming drone of a developing metropolis, Newcastle. Novocastrians are most fortunate to have this retreat on their doorstep. Lagoons, paperbark forests, vistas of vast oceanic scenery, and most importantly, the quiet of the bush. The palette is earthen and aquatic, the rich ochres of the paperbarks, the cool blues and greens of the ocean. It is truly an enrichment for the soul. It envelopes those who tread its sandy paths in a cloak of calm, instantly transported from urban mania to a place of natural beauty. In this exhibition, I pay homage to this local oasis in both pastel and oil paintings, and hopefully convey to the viewer it’s value and importance to our everyday existence and our future.
